(1)望诊，望诊，在临床诊察疾病方面占据着重要的位置。是通过对病人面部表情、神色、形态、舌象等的异常变化进行有目的的观察，以了解疾病情况的一种诊断方法。正如《灵枢?本脏》云“视其外应，以知其内脏，则知所病矣”。

(2)闻诊，听语音：古人论及的畜痫，即是从发作时患者叫喊的声音来判断何脏气不平而发痫.如果见到患者发病时，要仔细辨听有无痰鸣吼叫，如果有，要注意声响高低，时间长短。一般声响高、时间长多为痰热;声响微、时间短者多兼气虚。多言好语是心肝有热;沉默寡言是心脾两虚。声音宏亮，表明肺胃气实;声音低沉、无力，是脾肺气虚。

(3)问诊，陈修圆《医学实在易》一书中明确提出“问诊是医家第一要事”。痈病发作期的临床表现，患者多不自知，因此问诊不但要询问患者有关情况，对其家属更要详细询问其病情、病史。另外，对于和疾病有关的一些情况的了解，诸如家族遗传病史、患者禀赋素质、个性心理、习惯嗜好，以及患者饮食起居和对环境、人事、季节气候的适应情况，只能通过问诊才能得到全面的了解。

(4)切诊，切脉：有人曾经分析304例癫痫病人的脉象，其中滑脉占29.8%，弦脉占25.7%，其他细脉、沉脉、弱脉、缓脉共占23.5%。滑脉为痰盛，弦脉为肝风，数脉为里热，细脉、沉脉、弱脉、缓脉乃脾肾、气血虚象。

触腹：重点察看腹部有否灼热、胀满。有灼热、胀满者多有积热。如腹部筑筑而动，有气上冲，多见于奔豚证。肌肤甲错，晦暗无光者，多为瘀阻。查体：包括一般全身的体检，重点对外伤、癫痫发作留下的痕迹，皮肤、关节等进行检查。
