国外的一些癫痫中心研究结果显示，曾经诊断为癫痫的患者中实际上约有11%-25%为非癫痫性发作疾病。如果把非癫痫性发作当作癫痫，抗癫痫药物治疗自然没有疗效，在没有疗效的情况下很可能会加大药物剂量，造成抗癫痫药物中毒，引起药源性癫痫的发生。另一方面可能会给久治不愈者戴上难治性癫痫的帽子。专家提醒，在出现了发作性症状后，不要过分紧张，一定要到正规医院的癫痫专业门诊就诊，进行必要的检查，明确诊断。
