1、发现有先兆时迅速让病人平卧床上，或就近躺在平整的地方。如来不及做上述安排，发现病人要倒时，应迅速扶着病人，顺势让其倒下，以防其自己突然倒地，摔伤头部或身体。

2、保护舌头，最好抢在出现先兆症状时将一缠有纱布的压舌板(或自制一长约20cm，宽1.5～2cm，厚0.3～0.5cm边缘圆钝的木板或竹板)放在病人上、下磨牙(大牙)之间，以防阵挛期病人将自己的舌头咬破。

3、癫痫大发作时呼吸道分泌物较多，易造成呼吸道阻塞或吸入性肺炎。

4、自大发作开始，应将病人头侧向一方，以便分泌物自然流出。另外，最好将病人颈部扣子解开，以保持呼吸道通畅。

5、一旦出现癫痫发作，不必惊慌，应立马上患者平卧、头偏向一侧，迅速松开衣领和裤带，将毛巾塞于上下牙齿之间，以免咬伤舌头，不可强行按压抽搐的身体，以免骨折及脱臼。如出现癫痫持续状态，应及时送治疗，尽快终止癫痫发作。
