1、诱发因素:癫痫发作多系忽然发生,无明显诱因.但也有一些发作确有诱发因素存在.这种诱发因素可能周期性出现,如发作可与内分泌因素或月经有关,另一些诱发因素则系不规则发生.

2、先天因素:很多癫痫在青少年儿童人群中高发,癫痫病始于幼年者,与先天因素密切相关.先天因素有两方面:一是胎儿因母体受惊恐,使母体及胎儿气机逆乱,肝肾受损,二是父母禀赋不足,或父母本患癫痫,导致胎儿精气不足,影响胎儿发育.出生后易生痰生风,导致癫痫发作.

3、获得性因素:由获得性因素引起脑结构异常或代谢异常可产生致痫灶或降低惊厥阈值.病变可以是限局性或弥漫性,静止性或进行性.这类癫痫称为症状性癫痫.在症状性癫痫中,遗传因素也可能起重要作用,在小儿时期尤其如此.

4、癫痫病的病因主要有外伤:颅脑产伤,挫伤,出血、缺血能导致局部脑组织软化,日后形成癫痫灶.成人闭合性脑外伤,约有5%发生癫痫,重症及开放性脑外伤,发生的癫痫更多,可达30%左右.

5、中毒:铅,汞,一氧化碳中毒,以及全身性疾病,如肝性脑病,高血压综合症,急性肾炎,尿毒症等,均可发生癫痫.
