单纯部分性癫痫发作：单纯性局部发作时，患者的意识是清楚的，癫痫的发作类型和外界的交流良好。其症状可以是一手、一脚或半边的脸抽动，也可以没有任何抽动的动作，而只有奇怪的感觉或是眼前的情景突然间变得很陌生。有的则表现出幻觉，眼前突然看到奇怪的影象，或耳朵突然听到奇怪的声音。

失神发作：患者正在进行中的行为或活动突然停止，仿佛录象带被按了暂停键一样。通常在数秒或数十秒后，发作会结束。有时发作中会合并眨眼、咀嚼等动作。发作后可继续原来活动，且对发作全无记忆。由于发作时间短，常在很长时间内被家人忽略。

复杂部分性癫痫发作：通常发作之前患者自己会有快要发作的感觉，而后出现各种不自主的动作，并且丧失意识，整个人事后完全不能记忆。癫痫的发作类型是不自主动作可以是眨眼、咀嚼、两手漫无目的地乱摸或到处走来走去等等。整个发作时间可能超过一分钟。
