不同的病因造成的癫痫症状也有所不同，由于癫痫的病因很多，除了脑电图以外，还要做相应的检查，来查找引起这个孩子癫痫的病因是什么。最常做的是做颅脑影像检查，像脑CT或者核磁共振。此外也应做血糖、电解质的检查，并应结合孩子的具体情况选择相应的检查，排除可以引起癫痫发作的其他原因，以便准确的对儿童癫痫病情进行诊断。

儿童癫痫患者不同病情针对性的检查也不一样，儿童癫痫还需要辅助检查，这就需要依据患儿的个人病情而定，比如说孩子智力也改变了，而且病情越来越严重，符合遗传性神经变性病的特点的话，就要做一些遗传病的相关检查。有条件的话会做基因的分析，看看这个孩子遗传病的基因是什么。具体应针对病因的考虑，医生通常会根据孩子总体的特点，选择一些针对性的检查手段，所以患者家长不用担心。
