一、外伤：婴儿期症状性癫痫的常见原因是颅脑产伤。导致局部脑组织软化可能是由于挫伤、出血和缺血，日后成为癫痫灶。发生癫痫的成人闭合性脑外伤后约有5%;重症及开放性脑外伤发生癫痫的更多，可达30%左右，这是诱发癫痫的病因。

二、中毒：铅一氧化碳、汞、、乙醇等中毒，以及全身性疾病如肝性脑病、急进性肾炎、尿毒症等，均可引起癫痫发作。

三、营养代谢疾病：诱发癫痫的病因有低血糖、糖尿病昏迷、甲亢、等均可引起癫痫发作。

四、脑血管病：除血管畸形产生癫痫发作时年龄小的较轻外，脑血管病癫痫多见于中、老年人。可能引起癫痫病的有出血性及缺血性脑血管病。
