1、癫痫的药物治疗首选是选药问题，癫痫因病因的不同，其表现的症状也个不相同。要根据癫痫的病因来选择用药，没有一种抗癫痫药能治疗所有种类的癫痫，如果癫痫的选药不对，不仅对治疗没有效果，还会延误病情。

2、癫痫患者药物剂量的掌握，不同的癫痫患者对抗癫痫药的反应有很大的差异，服用抗癫痫药的剂量不足或过大都不利于对癫痫的控制。若用药剂量过小，患者的血清药物浓度达不到控制癫痫的水平，癫痫会反复发作。相反，若用药剂量过大，尤其是在发病初期，不但可增加癫痫发作的次数位和扩散的范围不同其，还容易引起患者的慢性药物中毒。

3、癫痫患者服用药物要长期规律服用，这是非常重要的一点，有的癫痫患者怕药物的副作用，少服，漏服甚至不服，这样会使癫痫病得不到控制，反复发作，形成难治性癫痫。还有一些患者在癫痫得到控制的一段时间后，就认为癫痫好了，立即把药给停了，殊不知，癫痫是神经得到损伤，是慢慢的修复的，癫痫患者在癫痫得到控制后还需服药一段时间才能停药。
