但是临床的大多数的孩子发作比较少，我们也很难预测到底哪一天抽风，哪个时候抽风，所以一般是做发作间歇期的脑电图，就是不发作的时候做脑电图。癫痫的孩子在不发作的时候80%左右可以检查出癫痫波，从而可以做出明确的诊断。

除了脑电图以外，由于癫痫的病因很多，所以我们要做相应的检查，寻找引起这个孩子癫痫的病因是什么?最常做的是做颅脑影像检查，像脑CT或者核磁共振。此外也应做血糖、电解质的检查，并应结合孩子的具体情况选择相应的检查，排除可以引起抽风的其他原因。

其他的检查就得根据病人的情况了，比如说孩子智力也改变了，而且病情越来越严重，符合遗传性神经变性病的特点的话，就要做一些遗传病的相关检查。

有条件的话会做基因的分析，看看这个孩子遗传病的基因是什么。具体应针对病因的考虑，医生通常会根据孩子总体的特点，选择一些针对性的检查手段。
