小孩癫痫是由于多种原因引起的一种脑部慢性疾患，其特征是脑内神经元群反复发作性过度放电引起突发性、暂时性脑功能失常，临床出现意识、运动、感觉、精神或植物神经功能障碍。小孩癫痫发作的表现与放电的部位、范围及强度有关，因而表现十分复杂.

常见癫痫大发作，失神发作和精神病的形式。主要表现为意识突然丧失，呼吸暂停、面色青紫、口吐白沫、瞳孔散大，抽搐开始为四肢的强直、握拳、两眼上翻或偏斜一方，然后面部及四肢肌肉呈阵挛性抽动，呼吸急促不整，常有舌咬伤，可以有大小便失禁。发作持续一到五分钟，发作后意识不清或嗜睡，经数小时清醒。大发作发病率最高，发作时突然神志丧失，呼吸停止，口吐白沫，四肢抽动，可能伴有舌咬伤和尿失禁(排尿不受控制)，历时1～5贫嘴，抽动停止后入睡。醒后头痛、无力，对发作无记忆。

失神小发作表现为突然发生和突然中止的短暂意识障碍，不抽动。在发作的时候，儿童患者会静止不动，脸色会略有苍白，言语活动暂停，手不能握住物品，有时会站不稳。发病一般在2至10分钟后发生。
